The non-Homer wedding DJ

There's an episode of The Simpsons in which Homer is given the opportunity to design a car by his half-brother, who runs an automobile company in Detroit. Convinced that bigger is better, Homer crams in jumbo cup holders, a ball on the top of the antenna, tail fins, two bubble domes, shag carpeting and horns that play "La Cucaracha."
Of course, the car fails to impress consumers and Herb Simpson's car company is forced into bankruptcy.
That episode comes to mind when we see some of the over-hyped "entertainment" offerings being pitched to couples for their wedding receptions.
We understand that there are some stages of life that require a bit more intervention. At kids' parties, it never hurts to have extra help on the dance floor to encourage shy youngsters to participate. Dancers, motivators and an entertaining master of ceremonies can keep the event on track and introduce games and organized dances at appropriate moments when attention-challenged 13-year-olds might slip back to playing Angry Birds and texting.
However, most of the couples we meet at Scratch Weddings are adults in their 20s and 30s — well beyond their need for supervision on the dance floor. They choose a marquee DJ from Scratch for their musical knowledge, technical skills and ability to keep guests of all ages dancing all night long.
Learning from Homer's ill-fated car design, Scratch Wedding consciously avoids features that simply clutter the simplicity of a successful reception: really great music!
What you don't get with Scratch Weddings:
An overbearing master of ceremonies to lead line dances and holler into the mic all night.
Fog machines.
YMCA head dresses, inflatable saxophones, plastic sunglasses, maracas and glow necklaces.
What you will get is an A-list DJ who has rocked tens of thousands of fans at music festivals, opened for stars like Dido and Usher and kept dance floors full by spinning exactly what guests are craving. We collaborate closely with couples to thoroughly understand their musical tastes and take great pride in mixing in multicultural musical elements to make a wedding even more meaningful for guests.
Scratch DJs also aim to be a component of your wedding rather than the center of attention.
Sure, at your request, we'll happily announce when cocktail hour is over, when to be seated for dinner, and when the wedding couple enter the room for their first dance. And our collaborative, pre-event planning process means we take details seriously – from the no-play list to the proper pronunciation of wedding party VIPs' names.
Whether you choose to let the music do the talking or ask us to be a more active participant in your wedding, you'll be proud that you chose a decidedly non-Homer wedding DJ.
