Prospect Park Brooklyn

It has been said that Olmsted and Vaux practiced on New York City's Central Park and then perfected their talent for landscape architecture in Brooklyn at Prospect Park.
This past Saturday fall was in all her glory with beautiful reds, golds and browns, taking center stage as the sun set on the waters in front of the Boathouse.
The Boathouse, where the ceremony and cocktail hour took place, is the focal point for one of the most dramatic landscapes in the Park. With a lavish canopy enclosing waterfalls, serpentine paths, and carved bridges there are many places to take those once in a lifetime pictures.
My ceremony wasn't until the evening so the bride and groom opted to get their photos done before the guests arrived. This gave them the light they needed to show off all the rich colors, the time to take advantage of the parks many wonderful locations such as the carousel, and the freedom to enjoy their evening with friends and family.

'The design of this 1905 Beaux Arts structure was inspired by the architecture of a 16th century Venetian library, complete with elegant arches, decorative tiles, and classical balcony.'
This description does little justice to how masterfully the Boathouse blends the opulence of a by gone era with the natural setting of the park. There is a sweeping wooden staircase that the Bride descends down to make he walk down the aisle. The stone balustrades on the second floor balcony, that was set with tables and flowers, give a timeless beauty to the building.
Dinner and dancing followed in The Picnic House, a 4,000-square-foot brick and glass enclosed pavilion with a terra-cotta tile roof originally built in 1927. This building is most often praised for its light and sweeping views.
The property is rented as space only by the parks department. So a good caterer and planner are needed, but how lucky are we to live in an area where once in a lifetime events have such a wide variety of amazing places in which they can take place!
