Last weekend I had the pleasure of marrying Heather and John. The friend that introduced them is a very talented writer and so as part of her gift to them she wrote this poem:
Joining at the Bend
When they first met each other,
they were not aware how devastated
the part of them would be
that spent all of these years
looking for each other.
A telescope rendered obsolete
because they have given each other
the stars.
Before they met, they were rivers only
joined by rain drops and softly
fallen leaves.
Solid, independent currents
pushing forward from their pasts
At this bend where they have joined,
the water cannot be told from water
they create their own current
their pasts borne into them,
creating their own set of ripples
small but meaningful change
expanding out to shore
Harmony created in the tension,
between their now seamless existence.
they can carry more together on the break
seek out oceans, sculpt canyons
They can move forward together knowing,
Wherever they are, they are home.'
