Diving Into 2011
Dec 31, 2010 03:11 AM Back
It seems so appropriate, so very me, to start my brand new adventure, 'Rev Alison's blog', on December 31, 2010. I know what you're thinking, 'Rev ALison, be reasonable, why not wait until January 1, this way you can start this brand new venture on the first day of the brand new year?' And you know, you would be absolutely right. But unfortunately, that's not me. It's never been me. When I have an idea, something that's new and exciting, I like to get right to it. Jump right in. Case in point, the day I was born. Granted, I don't remember too much about that fateful Spring day, but it has become family folklore. That tale was told repeatedly to me and anyone else who would listen, year after year, until somehow that day and the events leading up to it, became a precious deposit in my own memory bank.
So my very pregnant mom was craving Texas Hot Weiners a hot dog in a bun smothered with spicy chili and sprinkled with cheese and onions. For all of you who need visuals, I found this web page : http://simplyrecipes.com/recipes/chili_dog/
So at 9PM, her cravings got the best of her, Mom sent Dad, along with two of his close buddies, on a Texas hot weiner hunt all the way to Nathans in Coney Island. Two hours later, a very pooped but triumphant Dad returned home to his very pregnant, very hungry wife and, quite ceremoniously, lay down the fruit of the kill at her feet. (AKA , placed the spicy dog on a paper plate on the table in front of her) Before she took one bite, she let out a scream and yes you guessed it, that was the moment I decided to make my grand entrance into the world.
She didn't get to take even one bite, because, getting back to the whole reason I am telling you this tale, when I decided it was time to arrive, it was on. I wanted out and I wasn't taking any prisoners. My father jumped into action--he was on a mission, one that made his recent victory pale in comparison. Off they went. Mom in the back seat, screaming at the top of her lungs. Dad driving like a maniac, horn honking, speeding through red lights, going the wrong way down one way streets. Think Ricky Ricardo (sans the bongos or the shirt with the fancy, flouncy sleeves) driving a half out of her mind in labor Lucy to the hospital.
It was all she could do to hold me back from being born in that back seat. When they finally got into the hospital, I was almost born in the elevator. They finally got my mother into a room and as soon as the doctor walked in, as folklore has it, I literarly flew out right into his arms. Folklore also has it that he had been a star quaterback in college. ; )
And so, bringing this whole story full circle, I will dive into this new blogging adventure as well as the New Year with the same enthusiasm and drama I displayed all those many years ago. It is also my desire that this blog will evoke a chuckle while giving great info and resources to engaged couples and their families. I wish you all a Happy and Healthy New Year!
